Since Mark Zuckerberg went and bought Instagram for $1bn (as you do), it’s barely been out of the press – thanks largely to great deal of conjecture about what Zuck and his chums down at Facebook HQ plan to do with the social network giant’s latest acquisition.

Some commentators have presumed that the purchase was in order to snuff out the competition, but what if Zuckerberg and co have greater plans for the fledgling photosharing program? What if they’re thinking of launching an Instagram camera? Then maybe, just maybe, they might want to have a chat with Italian designer Antonio De Rosa who has come up with this rather fetching, Instagram-inspired Socialmatic camera.

Inspired by the Instagram app icon, the Socialmatic will come with 16 GB mass storage, Wifi and Bluetooth, a 4:3 touchscreen, two lenses (the first for capturing the image,  while the second is for 3D filters, webcam applications and QR Code capturing), optical zoom, and LED flash.

As you can with smartphones, you’ll be able to create an image using the Socialmatic, change the look of the picture, then post it on Facebook for all to see.

And you’ll be able to create your own pictures thanks to the presence of an internal printer and paper cartridge with Instagram Paper Sheets. Watch out, Polaroid!

From the look and sound of things, Antonio’s design firm ADR Studio is doing some pretty cool work. And this isn’t the first time they’ve come up with an idea for a product that could be launched by a major brand.

“In 2010, we thought about the iWatch. Then we came up with ideas for the  iCam, iBox,  iPhone SJ…,” says Antonio.

More than being just an impressive design concept, Antonio is currently developing a working version of the Instagram Socialmatic, which he hopes to launch on the market (with Mark Zuckerberg’s blessing, of course).

If you’ve got a bit of spare cash and you fancy a punt on something out of the norm, you can invest in Antonio’s Instagram Social Matic project here: www.indiegogo.com/socialmatic
